Sermon Notes

Ephesians 2:19 (KJV)

“Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God.”

Introduction

There is a deep hunger in the heart of every human being — the longing to belong. Many search for acceptance in places that never satisfy, yet God, in His infinite mercy, offers us something eternal: a place in His family.

To be born again is not merely to change religion; it is to experience a divine adoption. It is heaven’s declaration that you are no longer an outsider. Today, the Spirit of God announces to you:
“Welcome to the Family of God.”

1. From Strangers to Sons

Before salvation, the Bible describes us as strangers, aliens, and foreigners to the covenant of promise (Ephesians 2:12). Sin separated us from God, making us wanderers without hope.

But through Christ Jesus, the wall of separation was broken. By His blood, we have been brought near. We are no longer visitors in God’s house — we are family.

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.”
— 1 John 3:1

This is not earned by works, status, or background. It is a gift of grace.

2. Adoption Through Christ

God did not merely forgive us; He adopted us.

“Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself…”
— Ephesians 1:5

Adoption means:

  • You have a new Father

  • You have new brothers and sisters

  • You have a new inheritance

  • You have a new identity

In God’s family, your past does not define you. Your failures do not disqualify you. Your new birth gives you a new name.

3. Life in God’s Family

Being part of God’s family comes with both privileges and responsibilities.

Our Privileges

  • Access to God in prayer

  • Fellowship with the saints

  • Guidance by the Holy Spirit

  • Assurance of eternal life

Our Responsibilities

  • To love one another sincerely

  • To live holy lives

  • To grow spiritually

  • To serve faithfully

“As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
— Romans 8:14

4. A Family of Love and Purpose

God’s family is not built on tribe, language, or geography. It is built on love, truth, and purpose.

In this family:

  • The weak are strengthened

  • The wounded are healed

  • The gifted are developed

  • The called are released

No one is useless in God’s household. Every member has a role to play.

5. A Call to Belong and Serve

If you have received Christ, you belong. But belonging must lead to commitment. God’s family is not a place of spectators but of servants.

“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another…”
— 1 Peter 4:10

Your voice, your skill, your time, and your resources matter in God’s family.

Conclusion

Today, heaven rejoices over every soul that comes home.
You are no longer lost.
You are no longer alone.
You are no longer rejected.

Welcome to the Family of God.

May you grow, flourish, and fulfill your divine purpose in Christ Jesus.

Prayer

Father, thank You for Your love that brought us into Your family.
Help us to live worthy of this calling, to love one another, and to serve You faithfully.
Let our lives bring glory to Your name.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
